TSAE’s Executive Director Search offers a systematic and collaborative approach to defining the realities of the position and the unique environment in which it operates. Because we focus solely on executive searches for associations, we understand the importance of finding a candidate that fits the organization’s culture.

We have three options to meet your budget and needs, from a toolkit to full search facilitation and interviewing assistance.

Price: $1,500 - 20% of annual salary, depending on level.

Level One Option: Basic

This option provides tools for your search committee to use as it prepares for its self-directed Executive Director search.  

For this option, TSAE will:

  • Facilitate a 1-hour call with search committee in order to understand the needs of the association and develop a skills assessment for the CEO position.*
  • Provide an electronic CEO search toolkit( includes outline basic process of hiring a new CEO, sample interview questions, suggestions on where to post position, skills to be looking for, sample contract, etc). This will be a vital checklist for you.
  • Development of a job description and timeline for process.
  • Provide a copy of TSAE Compensation Survey, which can used to assess CEO salary and benefits. 
  • Provide a posting for the position on Boxwood Career Solutions site for 30 days. 

*Additional consultation time available for hourly fee.

Level Two Option: Essentials

This option offers essential elements of a comprehensive search while the association’s role is to coordinate logistics and communication with the candidates through the entirety of the process.

Our experienced TSAE team members will:

  • Facilitate a 3-hour meeting (face-to-face preferred) with search committee in order to:
    - Review association needs: current status, vision, staff needs, governing style and financial condition of association.
    - Review board expectations for the process.
    - Complete a skills assessment for the CEO position.
    - Review compensation and benefits options
     - Review interview protocols 
  • Develop plan of work.
  • Develop timeline.
  • Create job description.
  • Create skills matrix for evaluating candidates.
  • Provide a copy of TSAE Compensation Survey.
  • Provide a posting for the position on Boxwood Career Solutions site for 30 days. 
  • Identify materials to provide candidates prior to interviewing process.
  • Develop a pool of suggested interview questions for phone/face to face interviews.

Level Three Option: Comprehensive

This option not only offers the essential elements of a full search through a facilitated process conducted by association experts, but will also include all tasks included in the logistical coordination of the interviewing process. 

Our experienced TSAE team members will:

  • Facilitate a 3-hour meeting (face-to-face preferred) with search committee in order to:
    - Review association needs: current status, vision, staff needs, governing style and financial condition of association.
    - Review board expectations for the process.
    - Complete a skills assessment for the CEO position.
    - Review compensation and benefits options
     - Review interview protocols 
  • Develop plan of work.
  • Develop timeline.
  • Create job description.
  • Create skills matrix for evaluating candidates.
  • Provide a copy of TSAE Compensation Survey.

Additional Services Over Level Two:

  • Screen resumes for first round of interviews and identify top (10-15) candidates to be interviewed by the search committee.
  • Attend and monitor of all candidate interviews.
  • Provide input on candidate interviews.
  • Communicate and follow-up with all candidates throughout process.
    - Schedule meetings and interviews
    - Respond to questions
    - Send rejection letters
  • Provide contract samples for search committee consideration.
  • Provide National Criminal Background Check.
  • Provide up to 4 hours of consultation (onboarding advice, process questions, candidate choices, etc.).
  • Provide (1) year of membership to TSAE for newly hired Executive Director.
