TSAE Honors 2017 Community Service Award Winner

December 19, 2017

Congratulations to Renita Fonseca, CMP, Executive Director, Texas Radiological Association, on winning TSAE’s 2017 Making a Difference Community Service Award. Renita was recognized on December 14 at the TSAE Celebration Luncheon at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center.

The “Making A Difference Community Service Award" was developed to honor persons who are making significant contributions to their community through their time, actions, talents and dedication (outside any volunteer work done for their employer).

Renita was honored for her ongoing volunteer efforts to help those impacted by natural disasters, and specifically, her work following Hurricane Harvey. When she heard about the devastation and flooding caused by Harvey, she signed up as a Red Cross volunteer and reported to the mega shelter set up by the City of Austin to receive evacuees. Renita saw what needed to be done and she jumped in to do it.

She spearheaded a luggage drive for evacuees, organized delivery of water and supplies, and worked with Starbucks to coordinate the delivery of $7,000 worth of coffee and supplies and the donation of 5 refrigerators and freezers.

All this quickly earned her a “promotion” from off-the-street volunteer to Assistant Shelter Food Manager in the matter of hours on her first day at the shelter.

In addition to the award presentation, the luncheon offered a toy and donation drive for members to give to local Austin charity Any Baby Can.
