How I Got into Association Management

Like most, I didn’t even think of association management as a career path until I started my career on the “other” side in hotel management and meeting planning. After working with associations on their hotel and meeting planning needs, I quickly realized that an association would be a perfect fit for my skill set. When an opportunity became available I joined the Austin Apartment Association (AAA) as the Director of Education. I quickly moved up to Director of Education & Membership and then to my current role as the Director of Business Development.

What I Like About My Job

There are two things that I absolutely LOVE about my job – first and foremost, my members!! They are such a dynamic group and working with them makes my job fun and absolutely never dull. Secondly, I love seeing our ideas start at the membership level and through hard work come to fruition helping both our association, industry and our community.

My Biggest Challenge

The biggest challenge we have is getting all levels of the apartment community employees engaged in some form or fashion within the association. Since the management company is the member, not all information gets consistently relayed to the onsite personnel. We are working to overcome this challenge through new events and activities targeting these members and encouraging our membership to reach out to each other to raise awareness and engagement. AAA does a wonderful job in recruiting for the association, representing over 200,000 units in the greater Austin area.

What I am Most Proud of at Our Association

We’ve been recognized multiple times nationally by the National Apartment Association (NAA) for exemplary programming ranging from designation completion to career development. However, it is our amazing members and staff and their unwavering dedication to improving the apartment industry and making a positive impact within our community that makes me the most proud.

What I Want to Learn from Other TSAE Members

Ways to continue to engage and re-engage members so that the ROI is continuous as they participate year after year.

How TSAE has Helped Me
